Performance Monitor

The sophisticated monitor is what sets Concept2 Indoor Rowers apart from other rowing machines. It provides accurate, comparable data each time.

Flywheel and Damper

The indoor rower responds to your effort on every stroke, so you are in full control of your exertion and resistance at all times. The spiral damper allows you to easily change the resistance, so you can change the feel of the stroke to suit your preference.

Designed to Suit You

We use adjustable footrests on our indoor rowers for quick and easy sizing. The footrests accommodate a wide range of shoe sizes. Our comfortable, ergonomic handle features a 10 degree bend that allows you to row with a natural arm and hand position.

Storage and Mobility

The Model D features a quick-release (no tools required!) framelock mechanism, so you can easily separate the machine into two pieces for storage. Caster wheels on the front foot allow you to roll the fully-assembled machine into position.

been using the concept rower it for a few months now, im not tall or strong and i have a lung injury so i was hoping it would be better than my last rower that broke after ten years… handle broke off mid use ( nearly took out my zelda statue in the process) old one was a roger black model from ages ago £250 at the time, i thought this at the time was a good rowing machine, clearly i dont know anything about rowing .the model D rower is heavy (in a good way) nice n sturdy, the damper allows for various resistance and its quieter than my last air rower too. but its also really smooth throughout all its motion. could not recommend it enough. it stays planted on the floor well cause of the design its feet and its weight. no moving at all when pulling on the handle like the lighter models.the ease of use has encouraged me to use it more now, (doing short distance rows only 5k) 2-3 times a week and this has also made me feel better too.if and when it breaks, i will only be replacing it with another like for like model , will not be going cheap again. thats how good this model D rowing machine is.

I used to use one of these at the gym but stopped going some years ago. Missing the rowing excerisce, I researched a few and then found you could actually buy a Concept2 for your own home. Yep, it’s not cheap but it’s easily the best and I’m so glad I bought this one. Really well made and the quality is obvious. Used in all the Crossfit games, it’s pretty much the benchmark for indoor rowing machines. Many Apps available but the Concept App is fine. Loads of workouts, challenges etc. Loads of stuff on the internet about training, correct form and records to aim for. You’ll never outrow this machine, no matter how fit you are. Just buy it, it’s an investment and the best.

Probably the best rower you can buy, came quickly, very easy to use and take apart / put together. Really good work out, choice of options and resistance, very smooth and good quality.Negatives – software needed updating on the computer, can’t be done by WiFi, you have to connect it via a cable, it keeps saying unable to do it which has stopped me from using some of the features. The rower can be quite loud once you get going and creates a breeze, not unexpected though.

This rowing machine is almost absurdly good.It arrives in a giant box, and the whole thing is absolutely massive so you really need a large area for it – it’s not wide, but it’s incredibly long.It arrives in 2 pieces and it comes with instructions so you can put it together but, literally, you just screw the legs on then clip the two parts together and you’re done. I was worried it would be flimsy but, somehow, clipping it together forms an almost solid steel bar.If you don’t have room to leave it “open” you can just unclip it to store it in two parts against the wall and it’s well made enough that the clipping and unclipping probably wouldn’t damage it but, to be honest, if you do have room to leave it as is I would really recommend it because over time wear and tear at the join *could* affect its durability. The seat is surprisingly comfortable – I remember using the rowing machine at the gym in my twenties and my bum being angry at me for days. Presumably over the years they’ve made them more comfortable, but you can order a specific seat cushion for it if your coccyx has words with you. It’s good and quiet to use with just a fan that whooshes as you row, and the LCD screen tracks your speed, how far you’ve rowed and how long you’ve been rowing. The LCD screen has myriad buttons on it, too, where you can program specific workouts including Racing mode and Games but we only use the Just Row option and then heave ho until our legs get a bit wibbly. To be honest it, all a bit high-tech: you can connect it to various apps and monitors using Bluetooth and something called ANT+ (?) but we’re luddites who just want to go for a row in our front room. It’s a bit like having an iPhone or an expensive camera – you know it does loads of fancy gubbins but you just need it for the basics and having a dabble with the gubbins is really, really fun but ultimately you always go back to the fundamentals. And the thing is, the fundamentals of this thing are *amazing*. The rowing motion is smooth and sleek and, even as a bit of a chubber, it feels absolutely rock steady beneath me. It doesn’t even wobble.Just quickly: on the flywheel there’s a dial that goes from 1 to 10 and I assumed that was the resistance. I actually put it to 10 because the resistance wasn’t increasing so I wondered if it was faulty. Have no fear, it isn’t broken! That dial doesn’t increase resistance, it’s a damper – essentially the higher the number, the heavier the boat you’re rowing. The instructions recommend setting it to between 3 and 5 to simulate a sleek, fast rowing experience. So, is it with the money? My goodness YES. We went back and forth for a while because of the cost but it’s worth every single penny. This will be with us for years to come and not compromising on the quality is so worth it for something like this. It feels like a better piece of kit than the professional rowing machines I used to use in the gym… if you’re thinking of ordering it, don’t hesitate a single second. It’s absolutely bloody marvellous.

    Great piece of exercise equipment
I have never rowed on the water or used these machines with any professional guidance so feel free to take what I say with a grain of salt. I waited to get at least 100K on this machine first (~10 hrs of active use time) so as to provide as good of a review as possible. If my feelings on it change over time, I’ll update, but fairly confident my opinion won’t change. So onto the review. The machine is fantastic for it’s intended purpose. If you enjoy rowing, then this machine doesn’t disappoint in that area. My knowledge of mechanics for how to row is entirely from watching technique videos on youtube. My natural inclination for the motion was probably 85% correct already, but it was good to see how it’s supposed to be done to really do it properly from the start. I would say the motion felt quite natural after 25K and you only improve after that with fatigue being the real hinderance to maintaining form all the time.Hardware:Comes in a easy to handle box that actually has cutouts for your hands to grab onto. Made it easy for me to carry in myself. Depending on your strength, you might want a second person to help carry it. Everything is well packaged and secured. Little risk of damage unless someone drops or smashes the box.Assembly is simple. Just a handful of screws to attach the front legs. Then attach the rail to the main ‘head’ and you are done. The attaching of the rail is just line up and snap together. Very easy. 20 mins at most including time to take things out of the box.The rail system is nice and smooth feeling. No complaints on that. The seat on the other hand, leaves a bit to be desired, but it isn’t the end of the world. It’s just hard plastic essentially and will be fine for short distance rows, but you definitely start to feel discomfort sitting on it on longer rows. I would highly suggest getting some sort of pad. I would recommend something low profile and with firmer support vs memory foam or anything that compresses as I find that firm but not plastic hard support to feel the best. It won’t eliminate discomfort on long rows but it makes a difference for sure. Should be noted that over time, the discomfort seems to lessen.Handles are fine. No thrills, but nothing bad. Handle grip is rubber textured, and comfortable enough. If you are new like me, you’ll develop some calluses most likely, but nothing unbearable. Proper hold is loose grip and mine have developed without tearing or causing any issues. Shouldn’t be an issue.PM5 is a bit dated looking but it does the job it needs to do. Programming workouts is simple and the predefined workouts aren’t bad. There’s no option to set multiusers on the PM5 itself sadly, but you can use a USB thumb drive. Using the Concept 2 software on your computer, you can format and set each thumb driver to an individual user (still one per user, but any cheap spare small storage one you have will suffice). Alternatively, and what I use is the ErgData app on my phone to sync with the PM5 via bluetooth. It has horrible reviews and I was skeptical of it at first, but have had 0 issues with it so far. The plus side is if you use it, it produces charts some charts for you if you upload to the online log book. Uploading data only collected from the PM5 itself or with the USB thumb drive doesn’t produce these charts.Noise:It’s noticeable… I personally don’t mind it while I’m working out, but it may be distracting if you are watching something. I usually just use wireless earbuds and it blocks out most of the noise from the flywheel and I can watch vids or listen to music comfortably enough. Others may not appreciate the noise though. My little one complained 🙂 I originally had this in the living room, but moved it to the basement to spare him the noise when he is trying to study or watch some tv. I’ve read the noise can be annoying in some condo dwellings, so something to consider.Size:It’s long. Make sure you have the space per the dimensions specified. When broken down into 2 pieces, it is about the size of my exercise bike. Breaking down and re-attaching the 2 pieces is quick and simple, but still a bit tedious if you are doing it every day. If you use it often (daily) you might want to have a space you can leave it as one piece all the time, but it’s certainly not a deal breaker to have to break it down to put to the side. Takes less than a minute.Maintenance:Overall, maintenance is fairly simple.- Wipe down the rail once in a while.- Oil the chain every 50hrs of use. C2 recommends SAE 20 oil and specifically the 3 in 1 Multipurpose oil but any 20W should work. I actually went with the 3 in 1 Motor Oil as that is actually SAE 20 whereas the multipurpose I think is light weight but either should be fine. You can put some on the rollers under the seat as well if you like. I do this every so often.- Clean out the fly wheel at your discretion. I’m sure there’s a recommended period, but it’ll probably depend on how dusty your environment is. This can be done with a vac and if it gets really dirty, you might need to take off the cover (just a few screws).Overall impressions:I have enjoyed the rower a lot. I use it daily for the most part for roughly 5K. I enjoy that it’s full body and get less bored during the workout than I usually do running or on a exercise bike. If you needed just one piece of equipment and one workout, this machine certainly is a good choice given how many body parts are worked in each stroke (assuming you are doing it properly). I do supplement with weights and other workouts, but imagine doing just rowing would be good enough for most. The only downside is the noise and that is subjective; you may or may not care about that. This is not a cheap piece of equipment so be honest with yourself. Do you actually think you will enjoy it? Don’t just get it because people told you rowing is great. If you don’t really want to do it, it makes for an expensive drying rack or dust collector. If you are going to use it, it is well worth the investment.

    Row, Row, Row Your Boat
I have owned most types of exercise equipment out there: treadmills, climbers, Spinbikes, recumbent bikes, total gym, ab machines, ellipticals, weight benches and all sorts of small do-hickys that were made to help you maintain or get into shape. No, I’m not a shopaholic LOL I am naturally small to average size but need to stay fit and healthy. Over the past year or so I have hit that dreaded time my mom and Aunts always warned about: that time when everything you ate stayed with you and loosing a quick five pounds was no longer a simple thing. One big note here though; One of the reasons I have had so many different types of exercise equipment over the years is, I have cerebral palsy and need to stay at a healthy weight and try to keep flexibility and cardiovascular health as high as I can have. Unfortunately I have found that many types of exercise equipment have something that prohibits me being able to use them effectively. For example, the total gym is a great piece of equipment however most of the exercises that I want to use involve laying on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the slide board. For me it is nearly impossible because of my muscle tightness I am unable to do that as well as a lot of the other exercises that require a bit of balance or flexibility that I just don’t have. I also have weaker leg muscles so a lot of the other equipment seemed to either wear me out immediately, or I’d have to used my upper body exclusively. Several months ago I began thinking about a rower. I actually ordered and canceled a different, less expensive rower that had gotten good reviews here because I’d been reading independent review sites and the Concept 2 had always gotten great reviews and I knew I wouldn’t be happy with lower quality. The water rowers looked good too but frankly I couldn’t swing the cost especially since as much as I hoped a rower would work for me I knew the odds were I’d be selling it if it wasn’t something I could use well. Assembly was probably the easiest of anything I’ve ever owned. The hardest part was getting the two pieces out from the Styrofoam! LOL Eight screws and the screwdriver was included. The item is well-made and feels sturdy but wasn’t too heavy for me to assemble on my own very easily. All you are doing is attaching a V shape bracket to the rower and then down to the flat piece that sits on the floor. Once assembled you just lift the front piece of the machine (one handed it’s not too heavy) and the back part has a little hook shaped end that goes down on a bar on the front piece and you lower the machine and the parts lock together. The machine is long but narrow. Storing may not be as easy as a machine that just folds but stays in one piece, but on the other hand having the two pieces come completely apart could make storage easy if you needed to put each piece away in different area. Now for the usage: As I have said I do have limitations and I do know they make a different model that sits up higher off the ground and it is supposed to be easier to get on and off if you have any type of balance or mobility issues however I chose this model because I felt it would be easier for me to get on and off. I did have to make one adaptation: because I do not have normal flexibility, I found that once my feet were strapped in I could not quite reach the handlebar to begin rowing, so I borrowed my Service Dogs tug rope she uses to open doors and attached it to the handlebar of the rower. It gives me the extra length that I need that once I am seated with my feet strapped in I can use the rope and pull the handle bar up to begin rowing. If you are heavier or built where you’re not able to reach the bar comfortably this is an easy fix. When I first began using the rower I found as I had expected that I was using very little to no legs, however after just a week I am able to use my legs some. Nowhere near the “normal” amount of a correct row form where your legs are doing about 60% of the work, but I have seen enough improvement already to know that as I continue my leg strength will improve enough to where I will be rowing in a more full body natural form. The reason I am saying this is just to let you know that even if you are limited and you’re not able to start out with the “correct” rowing style, you can still use this machine. I think it is important however to know what the correct form is. I would suggest going to the Concept2 website and watching a video. It’s not difficult at all but I do like to remind myself as a row that it’s legs core arms and then arms core legs. Since I did not have leg strength to begin with I needed to be aware of not pulling with my back. They also have a great video on adaptive rowing for those with physical limitations. So you can see that this really is something that everyone can use and benefit from. The machine is quite. Not silent but you can watch TV while using it without having the volume to max. You set the amount of air to allow through the machine by sliding a “damper” lever. The more air the more resistance but your pull also makes a difference so you can get a more challenging workout just by changing when and how fast you pull. The monitor is small but the numbers are large and easy to read. It has several features but I find the “Just Row” is what I’m using now. I also have an app on my phone and the rower and my phone connect via Bluetooth and it will log my information so I can have a record of my workouts. The app also offers a verbal feature so if you are visually impaired you can know how you are rowing as far as distance and time. They also have software that allows you to see yourself in a boat rowing against other people that you can see on a monitor or your tv. Even though I’ve only had the machine two weeks I can easily say it will be one of the very few that I will keep and use. It is by far my favorite and I’m already seeing improvements. I have lost 5 pounds and know that I am improving not only my cardiovascular system but I am getting stronger and more flexible as I can see improvements in my leg use. I started with 0% legs and now am maybe 10% and that’s a big improvement that will only get better. Oh and I will add that it is FUN!!! I actually enjoy rowing. Something about the repetitive movements and sound I find enjoyable. I do not give five stars often at all because I am extremely critical and consider all factors. This rower and the company has not only met but exceeded my expectations and I would recommend it without hesitation.I’m looking forward to using this for years and seeing a real improvement in my health and happiness. If you have been considering this rower I would say go for it!
