I bought this to track the progress of recovery of hand strength after breaking a bone in my hand. After the plaster came off, I had 3 physio appointments 6 weeks apart, but was keen to see if the exercises I was asked to do twice a day were helping in between times. This device allowed me to track the strength in the broken hand, which started at 20% of the other hand, and over a year steadily climbed to 105%. This encouraged me with objective data that said that the strength was gradually coming back, and kept me motivated to do the various exercises. The time course for full recovery was well over a year, and it was helpful to have feedback in between physio appointments. The device works well, and gave similar results to the £400+ dynamometer used at the hospital. I hope I don’t ever have to use it again, but would recommend it as a way to track – and be encouraged by – the long and slow eventual recovery from hand injury.

I brought this as I needed to get my grip strength up for a fitness test.I was really struggling to do this, and needed something that would show me results. This did just that. It came really nicely boxed, and worked straight away. It’s really clear, and you feel like you are really working your grip using it.Would highly recommend.

It’s long been known that grip strength is a good overall indicator of fitness and I bought this to use as part of a course I’m designing. The price is good, it’s easy to use, and as far as I’m able to tell, pretty accurate (I gave 4 stars for accuracy because I have no real way of testing it but it matches what my last health check showed.)

This was purchased along side some Captains of Crush grippers (1, 1.5, 2, 2.5) to monitor my progress. So far I can do 2 reps on the 2.5 which apparently requires “108kg of pressure” to close, but I can’t get a consistent reading beyond 85kg on this device. I’m inclined to believe the accuracy of this dynamometer, shame it doesn’t go beyond 90. However it is consistent so whether or not the numbers are accurate it gives me a reference point, but there’s no reason to believe it isn’t accurate. Quantifying my grip strength makes it easier to track and compare, plus it’s fun to have your friends and family try beat your high score!
